Mechanism

Fluoxetine works by blocking the reabsorption (reuptake) of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain. By inhibiting this process, more serotonin is available to improve neurotransmission, which helps elevate mood and reduce anxiety or obsessive symptoms.

Contraindication

  • Must not be used within 14 days of taking Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors.
